A UNITED FRONT FOR MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH
In a powerful demonstration of Rotary’s commitment to saving lives and improving community wellbeing, the Rotary Club of Ikeja Alausa joined forces with 10 other Rotary Clubs from Rotary Districts 9112 and 9126 to deliver an impactful Maternal and Child Health Outreach at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) on July 18, 2026. The collaborative initiative, organized in partnership with the management of LASUTH, focused on providing expectant mothers with medical screening, professional health education and essential maternity support.
LASUTH OUTREACH BRINGS MEDICAL CARE CLOSER TO EXPECTANT MOTHERS
The programme was officially declared open by the Chief Medical Director, Professor Fabanwo, alongside members of the hospital management team and Presidents of the collaborating Rotary Clubs. The outreach featured comprehensive medical screening for expectant mothers, creating an opportunity for beneficiaries to receive important medical attention and guidance as they prepared for childbirth.
HEALTH EDUCATION EMPOWERS MOTHERS WITH LIFE-SAVING KNOWLEDGE
Medical professionals, including a Gynecologist, delivered informative health education sessions covering critical areas such as maternal health, antenatal care, nutrition, safe delivery practices and child health. The sessions provided the expectant mothers with valuable knowledge while encouraging healthy practices that can contribute to safer pregnancies, deliveries and improved child wellbeing.
ROTARY CLUB OF IKEJA ALAUSA EXTENDS IMPACT WITH SECOND-PHASE OUTREACH
Beyond the LASUTH intervention, the Rotary Club of Ikeja Alausa independently extended the impact of the initiative by organizing a second phase of the outreach at the Rotary Centre on Ladoke Akintola. The Club provided additional pregnancy kits for pregnant women receiving care at the Centre, further demonstrating its commitment to ensuring that the benefits of the programme reached more expectant mothers.
IDOWU OLAWOYIN LEADS A COMPASSIONATE INTERVENTION
The presentation at the Rotary Centre was led by the Club’s Impactful President, Rtn. Idowu Olawoyin, alongside the Maternal and Child Health Committee Chairperson, Rtn. Jennifer Eric, with the support of other club members. The donated maternity items and medical kits were presented to the pregnant women, bringing smiles, hope and much-needed support to the beneficiaries.
SERVICE ABOVE SELF IN ACTION
The outreach concluded with light refreshments and group photographs involving the expectant mothers, medical personnel and Rotary members, creating a memorable record of a successful humanitarian intervention.
The programme stands as a testament to Rotary’s unwavering commitment to improving maternal and child health through strategic partnerships, professional intervention and compassionate community service. By joining forces and taking practical action, the participating Rotary Clubs demonstrated that Service Above Self remains a powerful force for creating healthier families, stronger communities and a better future.
