The 2024 Igbo-Ora World Twins Festival culminated in a spectacular grand finale on Saturday, October 12. The event began with the arrival of Oyo State’s Deputy Governor, representing Governor Seyi Makinde, signaling the start of this year’s celebrations. Following the National Anthem, His Royal Majesty Oba Jimoh Olajide Titiloye, the Olu of Igbo-Ora, welcomed guests with opening remarks.
The festival, an annual tradition in Igbo-Ora, aims to raise global awareness for the town, recognized as the “Twins Capital of the World.”
With an impressive twin birth rate of 50 per 1,000—far exceeding the global average of 12 per 1,000—Igbo-Ora has earned its unique title. Visitors and locals enjoyed vibrant cultural dances, twin parades, and various festivities, including the sale of subsidized foods.
Located 80 kilometers from Lagos, Igbo-Ora is the heart of Ibarapa Central Local Government in Oyo State. The community, primarily composed of farmers and traders, is renowned for its local cuisine, especially amala with okra leaf soup, believed by many to be the “twin-making” secret of Igbo-Ora.
