Saturday, 30th of August, was indeed a day to remember as Rotarians across District 9112 and beyond, alongside esteemed guests, gathered to celebrate the investiture of Rotarian Alexander Chukwu as the 24th President of the Rotary Club of Ikoyi Metro.
The grand event, held at the prestigious Sir Ademola Adetokunbo Hall, Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos, brought together distinguished personalities, friends, and well-wishers in an atmosphere filled with glamour, fellowship, and service to humanity.
Notably present was the District Governor, Rotarian Lanre Adedoyin, accompanied by his elegant spouse, along with other prominent Rotarians and dignitaries who came to honor the occasion. Also in attendance were Immediate Past District Governor, Rotarian Femi Adenekan, and his spouse, as well as Past District Governor, Rotarian Ifeyinwa Ejezie. The presence of senior Rotarians such as PAG Charles Okonkwo, AG Basirat Giwa, and Rotarian Michael Ileka further underscored the importance of the ceremony.
The event featured the induction of new members and board members, reinforcing the club’s commitment to growth and service. A cultural highlight came when Rotarian Alexander Chukwu, a man deeply rooted in tradition, invited the energetic Ogene Cultural Dance Group, whose performance added color and vibrancy to the celebration.
Another key highlight was the launching of the Club’s Special Project and Fundraising Event, chaired by Engineer Chris Okoroigwe, Managing Director of Western Development Company Limited. The session was enriched by insights from distinguished guest speakers, including Mr. Richard Omale and Mr. Sunday Ebikeme, who commended the club’s vision and pledged support.
The climax of the evening was the symbolic exchange of the Collarrette, the emblem of leadership, from the outgoing President, Rotarian Gbolahan Adeyinka, to the new President, Rotarian Alexander Chukwu. The historic handover was supervised by Immediate Past District Governor, Rotarian Femi Adenekan, alongside Past District Governor, Rotarian Ifeyinwa Ejezie, marking a new chapter of leadership for the club.
Beyond his Rotary service, Rotarian Alexander Chukwu is a seasoned professional engineer with over 21 years of experience in the Oil and Gas Industry. He joined the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in 2012 as an Instrumentation and Control Engineer with the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS), where he has contributed significantly as both a discipline engineer and a member of multiple Project Management Teams.
He is a proud Member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE) and a registered engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). In addition, he is a Certified Supply Chain Manager, reflecting his versatility in both technical and managerial spheres. Rotarian Chukwu is also a distinguished member of the prestigious Ikoyi Club, where he continues to uphold values of excellence, leadership, and service.
In his acceptance remarks, President Alexander Chukwu pledged to execute all his projects in line with the global standards of Rotary International, assuring members and partners of impactful, transparent, and sustainable initiatives.
