OLD FRIENDS RECONNECT, RELIVE MEMORIES, CELEBRATE ACHIEVEMENTS AND TOAST TO A BRIGHTER FUTURE.

By Elitist Magazine International
Forty years after completing their secondary school journey, members of the Jibril Martins High School 1981–1986 Set reunited in a memorable celebration of friendship, achievements and gratitude.
The gathering, held on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Cranfield Hall, Surulere, Lagos, was filled with excitement, emotional reunions, laughter and nostalgic reflections as former classmates celebrated four decades of shared history.
More than an anniversary, it was a homecoming that brought old friends together to appreciate how far they had travelled and renew the bonds that began within the school’s walls.

A JOURNEY DOWN MEMORY LANE
One of the most exciting aspects of the reunion was revisiting the unforgettable adventures of their schooldays.
Familiar nicknames, humorous stories and youthful escapades brought back memories of those who jumped school fences, those who tested their teachers’ patience and groups who contributed money for adventurous beach outings.
There were also recollections of brilliant students, class entertainers, natural leaders, sports enthusiasts and those whose unique characters made school life memorable.
What once appeared to be youthful mischief had become treasured stories that generated laughter decades later.
Indeed, the reunion demonstrated that school was not just about academic lessons but also about friendship, character formation and experiences that shaped their lives.

DIFFERENT JOURNEYS, ONE SHARED IDENTITY
Four decades later, the once-young students had become professionals, entrepreneurs, parents, community leaders and accomplished individuals.
Each had travelled a different path, overcoming challenges and achieving personal milestones. Yet, beyond their individual accomplishments, they remained united by a shared identity and the memories of Jibril Martins High School.
The reunion offered an opportunity to appreciate their journeys, celebrate achievements and acknowledge the teachers and mentors who contributed to their development.

RETIREMENT AND HEALTHY LIVING: TWO LECTURES, ONE MESSAGE
Adding intellectual value to the celebration were two insightful lectures on Retirement Preparation and Healthy Living.
Both speakers emphasised that enjoying a long, peaceful and fulfilling life requires deliberate preparation and responsible choices.
The retirement lecture highlighted the importance of financial planning, writing wills, estate planning, acquiring new skills and exploring meaningful business or personal interests after active service.
The healthy living presentation encouraged members to prioritise their well-being, embrace healthier lifestyles and make conscious decisions that promote longevity.
The central message was that financial security and good health are essential foundations for a rewarding retirement and peaceful later life.

A STRONGER OLD STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION
The reunion also presented an opportunity to encourage members to embrace the Old Students’ Association as a platform for unity, mutual support and collective development.
Members were encouraged to participate actively, share opportunities, strengthen relationships and support initiatives that promote welfare, mentorship and community development.
The association should go beyond occasional reunions to become a dependable network that preserves friendships and creates lasting value for its members and future generations.

CUTTING THE ANNIVERSARY CAKE: CELEBRATING FOUR DECADES
A memorable highlight was the ceremonial cutting of the 40th Anniversary cake, symbolising four decades of friendship, shared experiences and personal growth.
The celebration was further enriched by a toast to a brighter future, as members raised their glasses in honour of good health, unity, continued success and enduring friendship.
It was a joyful celebration of the past and a hopeful expression of commitment to many more years of togetherness.

DR. OLANREWAJU OLATUNDE ALBERT SHODIYA (ALBERCHIN): CHAMPIONING FRIENDSHIP AND SCHOOL PRIDE
The anniversary celebration was organised under the leadership of Dr. Olanrewaju Olatunde Albert Shodiya (Alberchin), Chairman of the Anniversary Organising Committee, a proud old student, supporter and well-wisher.

The occasion also acknowledged the contributions of the Jibril Martins community towards preserving the school’s heritage and supporting its continued progress.
His message captured the spirit of the celebration:
“Once a Jibrillite, Always a Jibrillite. Forever Our School, Forever Our Pride.”
FOUR DECADES OF MEMORIES, A LIFETIME OF BONDS

The 40th Reunion Anniversary was a beautiful reminder that genuine friendship can survive distance, changing circumstances and the passage of time.
From hilarious school adventures to reflections on personal achievements, enlightening lectures, anniversary cake-cutting and a toast to better days, every moment reinforced the importance of staying connected.
Ultimately, the reunion celebrated where they started, how far they had travelled and the opportunities that still lie ahead.
Forty years may have passed, but the memories remain alive, the friendships remain valuable and the pride remains unshaken.
