*A LIFE OF EXCELLENCE, SERVICE AND IMPACT*
Professor Abidoye Gbadegesin, is a highly accomplished Nigerian academic, clinician, and renowned leader in Maternal and Fetal Medicine. After obtaining his B.Sc. and MBChB degrees from the University of Ife, he further distinguished himself through advanced professional training and prestigious fellowships, including the FWACS, FICS, and FWACOG.
Served as a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) and Honorary Consultant at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Professor Gbadegesin has built an enviable legacy of excellence in medical education, research, clinical practice, and public service.
Throughout a remarkable career spanning several decades, he distinguished himself as a scholar, researcher, mentor, administrator, and advocate for maternal and child health.


*CHAMPIONING MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH*
Beyond academia, Professor Gbadegesin has made outstanding contributions to healthcare development in Lagos State and Nigeria. He served as the Focal Person and Technical Working Group Chairman for the Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV in Lagos State.
His professional interests and research efforts have focused on reducing maternal mortality, managing hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, combating infectious diseases affecting pregnant women, promoting family planning, and preventing unsafe abortions.
His exemplary service has earned him several leadership roles, including Chairman of the Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria (SOGON), Lagos Sector, and former National Secretary-General of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).

 

 


*A MAN GUIDED BY FAITH AND SERVICE*
Beyond his accomplishments in medicine and academia, Professor Gbadegesin is a devoted Catholic and committed servant of God. He has served faithfully in various leadership and financial stewardship capacities within the Catholic Church and remains an active member of St. John Catholic Church, Igando, Lagos.
His dedication to God, humanity, and community service continues to inspire all who come in contact with him.

*THANKSGIVING MASS MARKS THE BEGINNING OF A MEMORABLE CELEBRATION*

The celebration of his 70th birthday commenced with a solemn Holy Mass and Thanksgiving Service at St. John Catholic Church, Igando, Lagos.
Family members, friends, colleagues, associates, and well-wishers gathered to thank God for the gift of his life and for seven decades of impactful service to humanity.
The Mass was officiated by Rev. Fr. Nathaniel Ogar, MSP, alongside Very Rev. Fr. John Okoro, Rev. Fr. Julius Olayinka Adesola, and Rev. Fr. Augustine JohnPaul Dodo.
During the homily, Professor Gbadegesin was described as a man of peace, faith, humility, and service whose life exemplifies dedication to God and humanity.

*GRATITUDE FROM A GRATEFUL CELEBRANT*
In his remarks, Professor Gbadegesin expressed profound gratitude to the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Nathaniel Ogar, his associate priest, Rev. Fr. Augustine JohnPaul Dodo, and His Grace, Most Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Badejo, Catholic Bishop of Oyo Diocese, who was represented at the event.
He also thanked the representatives of the Alaafin of Oyo, members of the Unique 16 Club Amuwo-Odofin, Egbe Omo Oyo Ilu Eko, Igbimo Idagbasoke Oyo Initiative, Nigeria Medical Association, Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Professional colleagues, friends, and well-wishers for their support and presence.
Special appreciation was extended to his beloved wife, Mrs. Patricia Amede Gbadegesin, his children, grandchildren, and family members for their love and unwavering support.


*A GRAND RECEPTION IN HONOUR OF AN ICON*
Following the church service, guests proceeded to Regal Castle Event Centre along Idimu–Ikotun Road, Lagos, where the Gbadegesin family hosted a grand reception in honour of the celebrant.
The event featured captivating saxophone performances, Ewi renditions, cultural displays, live music, and energetic dance presentations that kept guests entertained throughout the celebration.

 


*CELEBRATING OYO HERITAGE*
One of the major highlights of the reception was the colourful Oyo cultural display presented in honour of the Oyo-born scholar.
The rich cultural performances showcased the beauty and heritage of the ancient Oyo Kingdom and reflected the celebrant’s deep connection to his roots.

*HEARTFELT TRIBUTES FROM FAMILY AND LOVED ONES*
The event witnessed touching goodwill messages and emotional tributes from family members and loved ones.
Mrs. Patricia Amede Gbadegesin described her husband as a remarkable husband, devoted father, accomplished scholar, and man of honour.
Mrs. Yetunde Adenson described him as loving, caring, humble, responsible, and protective.
Mr. Oluwaseun Adenson described him as God’s blessing to the world.
Dr. Ajibola Gbadegesin described his father as a special gift to society, a leader whose life serves as a model for others and a living book from which future generations can learn.
Dr. Mrs. Cynthia Gbadegesin praised his dedication to medicine and humanity, while Oladiwura Gbadegesin observed that the honour accorded him was a reflection of decades of sacrifice, mentorship, kindness, and service.

*TRIBUTES FROM PROFESSIONAL BODIES AND COMMUNITY LEADERS*
Glowing tributes were also received from the Gbadegesin Royal Family, Mr. Tunji Adekoya, Engr. and Mrs. J. S. Ajibola, Hon. Sir James Ojo, Egbe Omo Oyo, Igbimo Idagbasoke Oyo, Oyo Recreation Club, Bright Star Club Oyo, Oranyan Grammar School Oyo, the Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria (SOGON), and members of St. John Catholic Church, Igando.
The tributes consistently portrayed Professor Gbadegesin as a compassionate humanitarian, mentor, distinguished scholar, exceptional leader, and devoted man of faith.

The celebration attracted an impressive gathering of eminent personalities from the medical profession, academia, traditional institutions, social organizations, and professional bodies.
Among the special guests were Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Olaifa, Dr. Mrs. Arafat Ifemeje, Professor Akinbami Akinsegun, Matron Agbomabiwon Morenike, Amb. Dr. Mrs. Eniola Ajayi, and Rotarian Da-Silva Oyedara.
Also present were delegates from the Palace of the Alaafin of Oyo Kingdom, members of the Unique 16 Club,members of Egbe Omo Oyo Ilu Eko, members Igbimo Idagbasoke Oyo Initiative, members Bright Star Club, members of the Oranyan Old Students Association, members of the Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria (SOGON), Lagos Sector, alongside numerous family members, associates, friends, and well-wishers.
Their presence reflected the profound influence and widespread respect Professor Gbadegesin commands across diverse sectors of society.

*CELEBRATION, HOSPITALITY AND LASTING MEMORIES*
The festivities continued with a colourful cake-cutting ceremony that drew applause and excitement from guests.
In a symbolic moment, Professor Gbadegesin and his beloved wife joined together to cut the birthday cake while expressing hopes for many more years of fulfilled living.
Guests were treated to an abundance of delicious cuisine, assorted drinks, fine wines, and premium hospitality. Beautiful souvenirs and takeaway gifts were also presented as tokens of appreciation.
The live band provided excellent entertainment throughout the event, while the Master of Ceremony ensured a lively atmosphere with professionalism, elegance, and humour.

*A LEGACY WORTH CELEBRATING*
As the curtain fell on a truly remarkable celebration, one message resonated clearly throughout the gathering: Professor Abidoye Gbadegesin’s life is a testament to the enduring power of excellence, faith, leadership, scholarship, and service.
