THE WOMAN REDEFINING AGRIBUSINESS IN NIGERIA Farmer Margarita’s Extraordinary Agricultural Story

From One Acre to a Thriving Agribusiness Enterprise, Empowering Over 50 Lives in Ogun State

In Nigeria’s evolving agribusiness sector, Farmer Margarita, born Margarita Adokuru, has emerged as a shining example of vision, resilience, and innovation. Her journey is one of determination, strategic growth, and an unwavering commitment to agricultural excellence.
Before venturing into agriculture, she worked as a secretary in a construction firm. In 2014, driven by a passion for farming, she made a bold career change and began her journey with just one acre of leased farmland, focusing on piggery and plantain cultivation. Through disciplined management and strategic reinvestment, she steadily expanded her operations.

Her professional training at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) equipped her with modern farming techniques and strengthened her expertise in agribusiness. A major breakthrough came when she expanded to Apode Community, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, where her farm grew to five acres.
Today, Margarita Farm spans over 50 acres across Ogun State, integrating crop production and livestock farming into a thriving enterprise that has earned her the title “Queen of Agriculture.”

Empowering Communities Through Agriculture
Farmer Margarita’s impact extends far beyond food production. Her farm has become a source of livelihood for over 50 employees, creating sustainable jobs and empowering young Nigerians through meaningful employment.
She also mentors aspiring farmers and promotes partnerships within Nigeria and the diaspora, helping to strengthen the agricultural value chain and encourage greater participation in modern farming.
Overcoming Challenges

Despite her remarkable success, she continues to face challenges including poor road infrastructure, farm insecurity, labour shortages, inadequate storage facilities, unstable electricity, and limited access to funding. These constraints highlight the urgent need for stronger government support and improved agricultural infrastructure.

Building a Lasting Legacy
Farmer Margarita’s vision is to establish a fully integrated agricultural estate that combines production, processing, storage, and distribution, creating a more efficient and sustainable agribusiness model.
She aspires to make Margarita Farm a household name across Ogun State and South-West Nigeria, while inspiring a new generation of agricultural entrepreneurs.
Her message to young people remains both simple and powerful:
“Building yourself is your responsibility. You have to be your own inspiration because nobody will come to help you.”
