Family, Friends and Admirers from Across the Globe Gather in Grandeur to Celebrate a Beloved Matriarch, Entrepreneur and Woman of Unwavering Faith Whose Legacy Continues to Inspire Generations.
Some lives are measured not by the number of years they live, but by the depth of their impact, the values they embody, and the countless lives they touch. Such was the remarkable life of Princess Christine Wuraola Iyabode Vera-Cruz (née Odueke), a woman whose inspiring journey traversed royalty, entrepreneurship, motherhood, and unwavering devotion to God.
Born into the prestigious Funsegbuna Royal Family of Ijebu-Ode, she embodied grace, dignity, resilience, and compassion. Her life remains a shining testament to the power of faith, excellence, and service to humanity.

ROYAL ROOTS, GLOBAL EXPOSURE AND ENTREPRENEURIAL EXCELLENCE
Born on January 15, 1938, Princess Christine’s early years were shaped by a rich multicultural upbringing. Though born in Ibadan, she spent part of her formative years in Kaduna, where she became fluent in Hausa, Yoruba, and English. Her ability to connect effortlessly with people across cultures became one of her most defining traits.
Determined to excel, she travelled to the United Kingdom for further education, attending Secretariat College and building a successful professional career within a British medical practice. Her exposure abroad refined her discipline, broadened her worldview, and prepared her for future enterprise.
In 1974, she returned to Nigeria and established the CIWO brand, inspired by the initials of her names. Through cable supply contracts and the successful operation of CIWO Mini Market, she became a respected entrepreneur. Her success earned her the affectionate title “Iya Ciwo”, symbolizing integrity, enterprise, and excellence.

THE HEARTBEAT OF A LOVING FAMILY
Beyond business, her greatest legacy was her family. As a devoted mother, grandmother, and matriarch, she built a home anchored on love, discipline, unity, and faith.
Blessed with seven children and numerous grandchildren, she remained the pillar of strength that held the family together. Her warmth, wisdom, and playful humour created unforgettable moments across generations.
Her grandchildren fondly recall her signature joke: “Do you want your allowance in pounds or dollars?”—a charming reminder of her years in the United Kingdom and her joyful spirit.
A LIFE OF FAITH AND KINGDOM SERVICE
In November 1999, her life took a divine turn when she fully surrendered to Christ. From that moment, her devotion to God became the defining force of her journey.
She worshipped faithfully at The Apostolic Church, Orire District, Oshodi, Lagos, where she became a respected church leader and dedicated worker in God’s vineyard. Through prayer, Bible study, evangelism, counselling, and acts of compassion, she touched countless lives.
Her humility, spiritual depth, and joyful service earned her admiration within and beyond the church community. She lived not only as a royal by birth but as a true Kingdom General by divine calling.

A GRAND FAREWELL FILLED WITH LOVE, HONOUR AND CELEBRATION
Following her glorious transition on January 18, 2026, family members, friends, church leaders, associates, and well-wishers gathered on Friday, June 5, 2026, at the prestigious White Stone Event Hall, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos, to honour her remarkable life.
The magnificent hall, filled with over 1,000 guests from across Nigeria and beyond, reflected the immense love and respect she commanded. Elegantly dressed in colourful Aso Ebi attire, guests surrounded her children with solidarity, comfort, and support.
The atmosphere was not one of sorrow, but of gratitude and celebration—filled with memories, tributes, and heartfelt appreciation for a life beautifully lived.

MUSIC, HOSPITALITY AND AN ENDURING LEGACY
The event was enriched by melodious live music and soul-stirring gospel renditions that filled the hall with joy, worship, and reflection. The performances created an atmosphere of spiritual celebration and thanksgiving.
Guests were treated to a rich culinary experience featuring African delicacies, continental cuisine, smoked fish, Asun, samosas, Chapman cocktails, assorted beverages, and premium refreshments. Beautiful souvenirs distributed across the hall added elegance to the occasion.
Earlier during the thanksgiving service at The Apostolic Church, Orire District, Oshodi, Lagos, the officiating minister urged the family to uphold their mother’s legacy of faith, love, prayer, and service to humanity.
Today, her legacy continues to live on through all she touched.

AN ENDURING LEGACY FOR GENERATIONS
